Derek Bast focuses his practice on civil litigation and construction litigation

Derek Bast joined the law firm Bell, Davis & Pitt in 2017 after serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Louis A. Bledsoe, III, Special Superior Court Judge for Complex Business Cases, on the North Carolina Business Court. While in law school, Derek also completed an internship with the Honorable James L. Gale, Chief Judge of the Business Court.

Derek’s practice focuses primarily on business and commercial litigation, including the following types of matters:

  • Contract disputes

  • Corporate disputes

  • Construction disputes

  • Unfair or deceptive trade practices

  • Trade secret issues

  • Business torts

Derek grew up on the other side of the mountains, in Knoxville, TN. He received his undergraduate degree in Classical Languages from Vanderbilt University and his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. Derek met his wife, who is from Charlotte, while they were both summer camp instructors in the North Carolina mountains.  They have two young children, whom Derek hopes will inherit his love of the outdoors.
