Kevin G. Williams, President of Bell, Davis & Pitt, P.A., was sworn in yesterday as President of the North Carolina State Bar, the state agency that regulates the more than 35,000 lawyers who are licensed to practice in North Carolina. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Paul Newby of the North Carolina Supreme Court during the State Bar’s annual meeting in Raleigh.
Williams’s installation follows several years of service in State Bar leadership. He served as vice-president in 2025, president-elect in 2026, and previously represented Forsyth County’s judicial district on the State Bar Council for nine years.
“Protecting the public and the integrity of our justice system is the heart of the State Bar’s mission, and I am extremely honored to serve with other members of the State Bar Council and the State Bar staff in doing this important work. The State Bar Council is composed of lawyers from across the State of North Carolina who are elected by their peers, and who dedicate an enormous amount of their time to our profession, “said Williams.
Williams has practiced in Bell, Davis & Pitt's litigation section since earning his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1998. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993. He is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Forsyth County Bar Association and has served as president of the Joseph Branch Inn of Court.
Williams is not the first Bell, Davis & Pitt attorney to lead the State Bar. Founding partner William K. Davis served as State Bar president in 1986–87, and James R. Fox served as its president in 2011-12. Bell, Davis & Pitt is the only firm in the history of the State Bar to have three of its attorneys serve as State Bar President.
"Kevin and Bell, Davis & Pitt have always believed in the importance of lawyers giving back to the communities and the profession they serve. We're immensely proud of Kevin, and proud that this commitment to service runs through our firm's history," said Ward Davis, Attorney.
The North Carolina State Bar is the state agency, created by the General Assembly, responsible for regulating the legal profession in North Carolina. Its work includes setting and enforcing standards of professional conduct, issuing ethics guidance, and administering programs that offer planning and self-help tools for lawyers and other programs dedicated to advancing the administration of justice. The North Carolina State Bar is separate from the North Carolina Bar Association, a voluntary professional organization.
