Family Law

With more than 31 years of family law experience, our team strives to couple excellent legal services with compassion and understanding as we help our clients navigate the emotional turmoil of separation, divorce, and other family issues. We take great pride in the fact that most of our referrals come from word of mouth.

The family and matrimonial law team at Bell, Davis & Pitt is led by Robin J. Stinson, who practices exclusively in the area of family law and family law mediation. Robin is a North Carolina State Bar board-certified specialist in family law and a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Law.

We are proud that we are able to resolve the majority of our family law matters without entering a courtroom. Whether by utilizing our team's negotation and mediation expertise or engaging a neutral mediator, avoiding the courtroom helps to reduce your legal expenses and stress, while often settling issues more expeditiously. However, when both parties are not able to come to a mutual agreement, we are prepared to take these matters into litigation as necessary.

Our family law team includes the help of experienced paralegals, who aid clients in gathering necessary information, so that our team can provide efficient and effective legal services.

We provide legal services in all areas of family law, including:

  • Adoptions

  • Marital torts, including alienation of affections and criminal conversation

  • Alimony and post separation support

  • Family law appeals

  • Child custody

  • Child support

  • Termination of parental rights

  • Enforcement of family law agreements and court orders, including contempt

  • Divorce

  • Domestic violence

  • Equitable distribution of property and debts

  • Premarital and postmarital agreements

  • Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (to divide marital retirement plans)

  • Separation agreements

  • Parenting coordination in high conflict child custody cases

  • Family law mediation and arbitration

Beyond our deep expertise in family law, our team can tap into the broad range of the firm's offerings — such as tax, real estate and corporate law — that may be needed to address further legal issues.
