
Colleen Byers and Jason James, both attorneys and mediators at Bell, Davis & Pitt, will present on "Effective Advocacy in Mediation and Arbitration" to Forsyth County Bar Association members on Monday, July 8. Attendees will receive a 1-hour Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit.
This session will explore how to make the most of mediation and arbitration on behalf of your clients, including:
- Tips and techniques to prepare yourself and your clients for mediation or arbitration to maximize the likelihood of an acceptable settlement
- Effective negotiation skills to use at the bargaining table, including compassionate communication, active listening, cooperation, and collaboration
- Strategies for the effective use of a joint opening session to begin an effective dialogue for identifying issues and finding common ground
- What to avoid at mediation and arbitration including accusing, posturing, inflexibility, and hostility.
CLE Details and Registration
The session starts with lunch at 12:30 p.m. and follows with the presentation from 1 – 2 p.m. It will be held at the Gaines Ballroom at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Winston-Salem (460 N. Cherry St).
