Attorney Colleen Byers will speak at the North Carolina Bar Association's Complex Emerging Issues in Family Law (2019-2020 Family Law Intensive CLE), being held Nov. 14 & 15 in Charlotte. Byers will so-present a session titled "Trending Now: Gray Divorce Issues/You've Been Married How Long and Now You Want a Divorce?" with Kim Bonuomo of Allman Spry Davis Leggett & Crumpler PA and Elise Whitley of Kurtz Evans Whitley Guy & Simos PLLC.
"Gray divorces" refer to marriages that end during a clients' so-called golden years. The session addresses both legal and practical concerns, including incompetency of one or both parties, death during the proceedings of one or both parties, extended family involvement, estate planning before and during the pendency of an action, elective share versus equitable distribution, health issues for one or both parties, and more.
The program is planned by the NCBA Family Law Section. In addition to the November dates, the intensive will also be held Jan. 30 & 31 in Wrightsville Beach. Attendees will receive 12 hours of CLE credit, including 1 hour of ethics/professional responsibility credit.
