This December, Bell, Davis, and Pitt was the presenting sponsor for the 33rd Annual Mistletoe Run and has been presenting sponsor since 2011. The Firm is committed to supporting the YMCA and its efforts to stop childhood obesity with 100 of its employees and family members running the race and/or volunteering this year. Since 1983, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina has organized the Mistletoe Run to help fight childhood obesity. Some participants ran a 5K through the beautiful Buena Vista neighborhood, while others chose a half marathon that wound through the Graylyn International Conference Center, Reynolda House and Gardens, the Wake Forest University campus, and returned to the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA. Bell Davis & Pitt hosted the gear check for runners to leave their belongings during the race for safekeeping. The attorneys and staff enjoy offering this service so that participants can run worry free.
This year, over 3,000 runners participated, a 25% increase from 2015. Through this event, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina raised $70,000 to fight childhood obesity. Funds raised by the Mistletoe Run are used to provide financial assistance for children whose families cannot afford the full cost to participate in YMCA activities. Mistletoe Run funds also support the Y’s efforts partnerships with local schools, through which they provide the resources, motivation, and activities to help children build lifelong healthy habits. Thanks to the Mistletoe Run, Winston-Salem children will be able to stay active through youth sports, swimming, and so much more.
Thanks to all who participated, and thanks to the YMCA of Northwestern North Carolina for organizing such an exciting event!
