North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has named Bell, Davis & Pitt attorney and mediator Colleen Byers as its 2020 Lawyer of the Year. Colleen is being recognized for her work promoting health and wellness for lawyers, as well as advocating for the collaborative law process.
The publication selects one Lawyer of the Year from its class of “2020 Leaders in the Law,” of which there were 24 honorees this year. Leaders in the Law recognizes legal professionals who have gone above and beyond in their profession and the community. Honorees “represent the most influential individuals within our state’s legal community,” according to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.
Colleen Byers is a mediator and a litigation attorney with a collaborative approach. Her practice is focused in the areas of guardianship, trust, estate and fiduciary litigation, employment matters, and alternative dispute mediation. She serves as a Superior Court Mediator, certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. Throughout her career, Colleen has demonstrated a passion for serving her community and advancing the profession. She has advocated for health and wellness for lawyers by speaking at industry events and leading yoga classes for lawyers. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Bar Association’s BarCARES. Colleen actively advocates for the adoption of collaborative law in North Carolina and serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Civil Collaborative Law Association. She has served as president of the Board of Directors of the Forsyth Humane Society and president of the Forsyth County Women Attorneys Association.
Leaders in the Law are selected by a panel of independent legal professional leaders and peers based on nominees’ professional leadership, personal accomplishment and community involvement. North Carolina Lawyers Weekly celebrated the 2020 roster of honorees at a virtual awards presentation on Monday, Nov. 30.
