Winston-Salem/Charlotte, NC, (August 4, 2015) -- John A. Cocklereece, Jr., an attorney and director in the law firm of Bell, Davis & Pitt, PA, has been appointed to a four-year term as a member of Board of Trustees of Forsyth Technical Community College by North Carolina governor Patrick McCrory.
Cocklereece, a native of Greensboro, has been practicing law in Winston-Salem for more than 35 years. He is a graduate of the Washington and Lee University (Lexington, VA), earning his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in 1976 and his J. D. degree magna cum laude in 1979.
Cocklereece’s law practice focuses on general business representation, including the formation and dissolution of business entities, the sale and purchase of businesses, and the drafting and review of all types of business agreements; tax controversy matters, including resolving return and payment disputes with the IRS and North Carolina Department of Revenue; handling appeals of real and personal property tax values with County tax offices and the North Carolina Property Tax Commission; and estate planning and estate administration. He has served as Chairman of the North Carolina Property Tax Commission and currently serves as Chairman of the Forsyth County Industrial Development and Pollution Control Financing Authority. Cocklereece also co-authors The North Carolina Property Tax Law Monitor, a blog dedicated to discussing issues related to North Carolina property tax law.
