Winston-Salem, NC February 3, 2015)—Mark A. Jones, an attorney with the law firm of Bell, Davis & Pitt, PA has been certified as a specialist in Federal and State Criminal Law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Jones heads the white collar and general federal defense sections at the firm, which has offices located in Winston-Salem and Charlotte.
Jones is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, earning his J.D., cum laude, in 2006. While at the Georgetown University Law Center, he was a member of the Georgetown Law Journal, (2004-2006) and was an Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal's 35th Annual Review of Criminal Procedure (2006). Jones earned his bachelor’s degree, with honors, from Wake Forest University in 2002.
From 2008-2011, Jones was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of North Carolina, where he represented the United States in hundreds of federal criminal investigations and prosecutions. Jones has been honored for inclusion among Business North Carolina magazine’s Legal Elite in Criminal law and as a North Carolina Super Lawyer’s Rising Star. He currently serves as chairman of the Criminal Justice Section of the N.C. Bar Association and in 2013, he was the President of the Forsyth County Criminal Defense Trial Lawyers’ Association.
The North Carolina State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization was created in 1983 and began certifying North Carolina lawyers as legal specialists in 1987. It was established to create a process through which qualified North Carolina lawyers might become certified as specialists in designated areas of the law. The NC Bar Specialization Program conforms to the standards set forth by the American Bar Association and is one of only 18 state legal certification programs in the United States.
