Cumberland County Property Tax Rates Likely to Increase

The 2017 property tax revaluation in Cumberland County resulted in an increase in the assessed values of commericial properties, but a decrease in the overall tax base.  County Manager Amy Cannon believed the County's Board of Commissioners would need to raise the tax rate to offset the decline in the tax base.

The county board is starting to think about the problem of reduced tax revenue, and a hike in the rate sounds like a certainty.  Board Chairman Glenn Adams has reportedly said that they do not yet know how much the rate will have to increase to deal with the pending budget crunch.  So, the question seems to be how much it needs to go up, not whether it needs to go up at all.

Property tax rates generally become known in late spring or early summer.  We will report back when there is more certainty regarding the Cumberland County rates.
